Artist Spotlight: Honey Cocaine (LKE)

So us here at RasDaBlog haven't done an artist spotlight in a long while, so lets get back to that I said to myself. Now this young lady "Honey Cocaine" is a Toronto native, of Cambodian decent. Born October 22, 1992, she received recognition for the collar with Tyga on the song "Heisman". She is currently signed to Tyga's Last Kings Entertainment for a WHOPPPING $3 Million.

Honey Cocaine is a metaphor. It means sweet and addicting music. Honey is the filling inside and cocaine is the raw outside, it’s like the real hip-hop. Honey is me as a girl.

Personal Life: Growing Up


Honey Cocaine was born Sochitta Sal in Cambodia. Her parents raised her in a poor village in the country. They fled their country and moved to Toronto Canada. Growing up she didn’t know English. She learned through watching 106 and Park (who woulda thunk it?). One of the first rappers she heard was Tupac. She recalls listening to his music as a kid and not understanding what he was saying but as she learned more English she felt a connection with his stories and her life growing up. Honey Cocaine started writing poetry when she was 6. And when she got a little older she started writing raps once her English got better. At 11 she started hitting the studio.

Once her father got a decent job they moved into a house and gave her the master bedroom. Her father called her Honey growing up. She was the ultimate daddy’s girl because she was the only daughter of her father and mother who had seven children. Despite his love and favoritism to her she still was disciplined when her grades did not meet his standards. In High School she would keep a cup in her locker and sneak to McDonald’s after school and get free refills. She concocted her own drink called Pimp juice which was made of Sprite and a little bit of Fruitopia.

Now PAUSE for a second… Who is she? Do I care to know her? What has she done? Honey is most "famously' known for a tragedy that happened to rapper "Freddy E" when he committed suicide allegedly because of her. Something that is denied by her and she is hurt by.

“He was just a character, everybody loved him, he was always happy, funny, always making jokes and just living life. Real confident, he was just a good person,”

How Honey Cocaine and Freddy E Met

Their relationship started when they performed at a show in Seattle Washington. He introduced himself and mentioned he was a fan of hers. They exchanged numbers. They kept in touch and became friends. He attempted to take the relationship further but Honey Cocaine wasn’t interested. She was focused on her career and the two rarely would be able to see each other. He respected that and continued to be friends. They supported each other. It is still unclear why Freddy decided to kill himself, but he did send a series of grim tweets before his passing.

“Annnd, my day is ruined,” he wrote on the site, giving way to a series of other tragic messages. “If there’s a God then He’s calling me back home. This barrel never felt so good next to my dome. It’s cold & I’d rather die than live alone.” Those tweets made fans assume that because of Honey’s rejection it’s what forced him to take his life. Though his final message to the world was dark, Honey will remember all of the light Freddy E brought to the world around him.

"He was a good friend to everyone and I know that because I met his friends and you know what he was the person that you can depend on, he was a good guy, he had a genuine heart,”

To this very day Honey states they were never in a relationship and were "just friends" and would like for everyone to respect his memory and leave it at that. Now on the musical side of things "Thug Love" is Honey Cocaine's new Mixtape set to drop sometime in March. She's had 2 leaks from this mix tape already "Runaway Bride" and "He's The One". Be on the lookout for 20 year old in the upcoming months as she has a different type of flow and could possibly be a force to be reckoned with in the very near future.
